Ranchi, June 23: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has initiated a defection case against its Borio MLA, Lobin Hembrom, to be heard in the Speaker Tribunal under the 10th Schedule. This move underscores the party’s uncompromising stance against rebellion in the aftermath of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In a significant departure from party lines, Hembrom contested independently from the Rajmahal seat, directly challenging JMM’s official candidate, Vijay Hansdah. Despite his independent bid, Hembrom faced defeat as Vijay Kumar Hansdah secured a resounding victory, triumphing over BJP’s Tala Marandi by a staggering margin of 1,78,264 votes. JMM garnered 6,13,371 votes in total, while BJP amassed 4,35,107 votes. Hembrom secured 42,140 votes in the election.

JMM took decisive action against Hembrom by suspending him for six years, citing his actions as a breach of alliance principles. The party formally announced his expulsion on May 17, 2024, highlighting his nomination against the party’s directive as the reason for disciplinary action.

The defection case against Lobin Hembrom is expected to proceed swiftly through the Speaker Tribunal, signaling the party’s commitment to upholding discipline and loyalty among its members.
