NCW Forms Inquiry Panel to Probe Sexual Abuse Allegations at TCS Nashik Unit

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday constituted a high-level fact-finding committee to investigate allegations of sexual harassment and serious criminal misconduct at a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BPO unit in Nashik, Maharashtra.

The Commission took suo motu cognisance of media reports following an initial complaint regarding religious practices. These reports uncovered disturbing allegations involving sexual harassment, rape, and attempted forced religious conversion of female employees by individuals in supervisory positions.


The Fact-Finding Committee

The committee will visit the Nashik facility on April 18 to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry. The panel includes:

  • Justice Sadhna Jadhav: Retired Judge of the Bombay High Court.

  • B. K. Sinha: Former DGP of Haryana.

  • Monika Arora: Supreme Court Advocate.

  • Lilabati: Senior Coordinator, NCW.

Mandate and Scope of Inquiry

The NCW has directed the committee to examine the circumstances of the alleged incidents and assess the response of the concerned authorities. Key objectives include:

  • Evidence Gathering: Interacting with victims, police officials, and company representatives.

  • Identifying Lapses: Determining any procedural or administrative failures by the company.

  • Remedial Action: Suggesting measures to strengthen workplace safety mechanisms and prevent recurrence.

The committee must submit its formal findings to the Commission within 10 working days.

In an official statement, the NCW emphasized its commitment to ensuring a safe and dignified working environment for women. The Commission stated it would take all necessary steps based on the committee’s findings to ensure accountability for those found responsible.
