CoBRA Commando Injured in Saranda Forest Gunfight with Maoists

Jamshedpur: A CoBRA commando sustained injuries during a fierce encounter between security forces and Maoist insurgents in the Saranda forest of West Singhbhum on Wednesday. The gunfight has triggered an intensified anti-Maoist sweep across the dense regional terrain.

The exchange of fire began when Maoist cadres, hidden in the thick canopy, ambushed security teams during a routine search operation. Personnel from the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), Jharkhand Jaguar, and district police retaliated, leading to prolonged, intermittent gunfire.

Evacuation and Medical Update

One CoBRA jawan was injured during the skirmish. Authorities confirmed that his condition remains stable, and they have arranged for an air evacuation to transport him to a higher medical center for advanced treatment.

Intelligence sources suggest the insurgent group is linked to Misir Besra, a senior CPI (Maoist) leader. Besra is a key operational figure known to influence Maoist activities along the Jharkhand-Odisha border and within the Saranda belt.
