DC inspects rain-hit areas, relief camps in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Following days of heavy rainfall and rising water levels of Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi conducted an extensive inspection of flood-affected areas and relief camps across the city on Friday.

The Deputy Commissioner visited inundated areas of Kadma, Shastrinagar, Domuhani, and Shankosai in Mango to assess the on-ground situation. He interacted with affected residents to understand their problems and issued necessary directions to the rescue and relief teams for swift action.

During his visit to the relief shelter at Bagunhatu, he personally reviewed arrangements and interacted with displaced citizens staying at the camp. He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water, food, and essential items. Special attention, he emphasized, must be paid to the care and safety of children, women, and elderly residents.

In view of waterlogging and blocked drains reported from several localities, the Deputy Commissioner instructed municipal officials to speed up the cleaning of drainage systems and improve water discharge mechanisms. He also asked officials to monitor river water levels round the clock and remain prepared to issue alerts or evacuate residents if the situation worsens.

“All disaster management agencies must stay prepared with sufficient stock of relief material, including boats, motorboats, life jackets, and searchlights,” he directed.

Deputy Commissioner Satyarthi assured that the district administration is fully alert and committed to safeguarding lives and property. He appealed to residents to strictly follow safety advisories, ignore rumours, and maintain calm during emergencies. For any help, citizens can contact the control room at 0657-2431028.

Officials present during the inspection included Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhagirath Prasad, Deputy Municipal Commissioner JNAC Krishna Kumar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Mango Municipal Corporation Arvind Aggarwal, engineers from Jusco and the Swarnarekha project, along with other concerned officers.
