Sumona Isha Mandal bags double gold
Jamshedpur, August 1: The second day of the two-day DAV National Sports Cluster Level-1 Athletics Meet concluded on a high note on July 31, 2025, at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. Organized under the aegis of DAV Jharkhand Zone-E, the meet brought together 204 young athletes from nine DAV schools across Cluster-1 for a thrilling display of sporting excellence.

The event commenced with the DAV Gaan and flag hoisting ceremony, followed by a formal declaration of the meet open by Mrs. Pragya Singh, Principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur and ARO, Jharkhand Zone-E.

Athletes from DAV Bistupur, DAV Jhinkpani, DAV Gua, DAV Chaibasa, DAV Noamundi, DAV Bundu, DAV Chiria, DAV Baharagora, and DAV NIT competed in a wide range of track and field events. These included High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, and races such as 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, and relay events (4x100m, 4x400m). Events were held in Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 categories.
DAV Bistupur emerged as one of the top performers of the meet. In the boys’ category, Devashish Jaiswal and Dev Soren won medals in the 400m and 200m races respectively. Sumona Isha Mandal made a remarkable mark by winning two Gold medals in both the 100m and 200m Girls’ races. In the Under-14 Girls’ race, Ishanvi Siddhi secured the Bronze medal. In Triple Jump (Girls), Sakshi Mahato clinched Gold, while Ayush Kumar Gupta (Under-19, Boys) won Bronze. Shweta Singh (Under-14, Girls) added to DAV Bistupur’s tally with a Silver in Shot Put.

DAV Chiria gave tough competition in Shot Put, Long Jump, and Relay events. A close contest was also seen among DAV Jhinkpani, DAV Chaibasa, and DAV Chiria, highlighting the competitive spirit across the schools.

Pragya Singh encouraged the athletes to aim for zonal and national success, calling sports a vital tool for discipline and leadership. The event concluded with prize distribution, applause, and high hopes for the next level of competition.
