Jamshedpur/Shimla: The play, ‘Dadhichi – @ youth.com‘ left an indelible mark on audiences at the National Theatre Festival 2024, held at the iconic Gaiety Theatre, Shimla. Organized by the All-India Theatre Council (AITC) in collaboration with Stepco (Nahan) and the Himachal Pradesh Department of Language, Art, and Culture, the performance by Jamshedpur-based PATH (People’s Association for Theatre) resonated deeply with viewers.
A poignant moment featuring Mandira mourning her brother-in-law Ranjan brought the audience to a profound silence, vividly portraying the play’s emotional depth. The impactful staging even led Professor Saxena, a character in the play, to drop his phone in shock, adding to the gripping atmosphere.

The cast included (Eklavya) Ashutosh Kumar Singh, (Abhimanyu) Sankalp Mishra, (Aruni) Rupesh Rai, (Santosh) Suman Saurabh, (Ranjan) Rupesh Prasad, (Mandira) Chhabi Das and (Shankar Saxena) Md. Nizam.
The gripping presentation was directed by theatre veteran Md. Nizam whose exquisite grip over the subject made watching the play an exercise in sublimity.
The technical team that excelled in the manner of an well-oiled machine, included Deepesh Kumar and Nitish Kumar (background music), Shyam Dev Mahato and Sushmita Kumari (stage sets and craft) and Khurshid Alam and Satyam Kumar (light deigning).
The play explores the clash between traditional values and modern life, setting a new benchmark in contemporary theatre. Thunderous applause filled the Gaiety Theatre during its conclusion, with luminaries from AITC, renowned theatre artistes, and art enthusiasts lauding the performance.
PATH extended heartfelt thanks to AITC and its collaborators for the platform, vowing to continue delivering high-quality theatrical experiences.
