Jamshedpur: Youth Unity for Voluntary Action (YUVA), in collaboration with Women Gaining Ground Consortium and CREA, New Delhi, conducted a one-day district-level workshop on online violence against women. The event was part of a 16-day campaign to foster equality and ensure a safe environment for women.
The workshop was inaugurated by Rajendra Prasad, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), along with prominent lawyers including Rajesh Shrivastava, Yogita Kumari, Preeti Murmu, Videsh Kumar, and Vijay Gupta. YUVA founder Arbind Kumar Tiwari introduced the campaign’s objectives.
Key Discussions held at the workshop included Online Violence Threats during which Lawyer Preeti Murmu highlighted the rising concerns of trolling, cyberstalking, and sexual harassment. Rajendra Prasad explained DLSA’s support in providing legal aid and guiding victims through justice procedures. Other topics discussed were One-Stop Centres that played a crucial role in offering legal, medical, and psychological support. Simplified Legal Processes during which Yogita Kumari discussed measures to make legal assistance more accessible and victim-friendly, including expedited hearings. Stronger Laws: Rajesh Shrivastava and Avinash Chandra advocated for enhanced legal frameworks and stricter penalties to deter online violence.
The workshop underscored the urgent need for collective action, increased awareness, and robust institutional support to tackle online violence against women.
Active participation by YUVA members, including Chandmani Sawaiyan, Reela Sardar, Kiran Sardar, and Kapra Majhi, ensured the program’s success.
