Record Liquor Sales Fuel Jharkhand’s Rs 4,013 Crore Excise Milestone

Jamshedpur: In a significant fiscal milestone, the Excise Department of Jharkhand has achieved its highest-ever annual revenue collection, amassing a record Rs 4,013.53 crore in the financial year 2025–26. The figure not only marks a sharp surge over the previous high of Rs 2,700 crore but also signals a major strengthening of the state’s financial backbone.

According to an official press release issued by the Public Relations Department, the achievement has been described as “historic” and a clear reflection of improved governance, administrative efficiency, and stringent monitoring mechanisms within the excise system.

Driving the surge has been a multi-pronged strategy focusing on cracking down on illicit liquor operations across the state. Authorities intensified enforcement against illegal manufacture, transportation, and sale of liquor, plugging revenue leakages that had long plagued the sector. Regular raids, tighter surveillance, and coordinated field operations ensured that unlawful networks were significantly curtailed.

A key contributor to this success has been the adoption of advanced digital tracking systems. By closely monitoring the movement of liquor from production to retail points, the department has enhanced transparency and accountability in the supply chain. Officials noted that the integration of technology has not only streamlined operations but also minimized opportunities for malpractice.

Policy-level reforms have further bolstered the revenue spike. The implementation of a revised Excise Policy brought in changes to licensing fees and excise duties, making the system more competitive and transparent. Increased participation in liquor outlet operations, combined with fairer allocation processes, has also contributed to higher collections.

The department emphasized that the record-breaking revenue will provide a substantial boost to Jharkhand’s finances, enabling greater investment in development and welfare initiatives. With systems now more robust and leak-proof, officials remain optimistic about sustaining this upward trajectory in the coming years.
