Jamshedpur, April 16: A sudden change in weather on Thursday evening brought significant relief to residents of Jamshedpur, Seraikela, Sini, and adjoining areas, easing the grip of intense summer heat that had made conditions unbearable through the day.
According to the daily evening bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi Meteorological Centre (Birsa Munda Airport) on April 16, several parts of Jharkhand had been experiencing high temperatures, with Daltonganj recording the highest maximum temperature at 41.8°C. Jamshedpur registered a maximum of 37.1°C, while Bokaro and Ranchi recorded 36.5°C and 37.7°C, respectively.
No significant rainfall was recorded at most stations during the day, although Seraikela AWS reported 3.5 mm of rainfall.
In Seraikela, the situation remained oppressive until late afternoon, with temperatures hovering around 39°C amid strong sunshine and high humidity. The sweltering conditions forced people indoors, leaving roads relatively deserted.
However, the weather took a dramatic turn around 4:15 PM, when strong winds accompanied by thunder ushered in a spell of rainfall that lasted for nearly an hour.
The downpour brought down the temperature sharply to around 27°C, marking an impressive drop of nearly 12 degrees Celsius.
The sudden cooling transformed the atmosphere, making the weather pleasant and providing much-needed respite to residents who had been struggling with heat and humidity throughout the day.
Locals welcomed the change, expressing relief as cooler conditions prevailed after days of relentless summer heat. ( W-pm )
