Jamshedpur, Nov 27: A deep depression forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into a cyclonic storm, Fengal, by Wednesday night. While the full force of the storm will not directly impact Jharkhand, the state is expected to experience the partial effects, including changes in weather patterns.
According to the Meteorological Department of Ranchi, the storm’s outer cloud band will start affecting Jharkhand by Thursday, leading to a rise in cloud cover and a decrease in the cold weather. The department confirmed that there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature for the next two to three days. However, a slight increase in temperatures of about 2-3°C is expected thereafter. Similarly, the maximum temperature will remain stable for the first few days before dropping for two days.
The cyclone, named Fengal by Saudi Arabia, is projected to reach the Tamil Nadu coast within the next two days, bringing heavy rains to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. Its effects are likely to be felt in Jharkhand until December 1 or 2, with a return of severe cold expected from December 3 onwards.
In the last 24 hours, Garhwa recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 10.9°C, while Sahebganj recorded the highest maximum temperature at 30°C. Ranchi saw a minimum of 11.1°C, Jamshedpur 13°C, and Bokaro 11.5°C. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for potential rainfall and changing weather conditions across Jharkhand due to the ongoing cyclone.
