Jamshedpur, Dec 10: Cybercriminals continued to use cunning tactics to defraud unsuspecting persons of their money. In a recent case, the son of Dr. Vikas Kumar Naredi, a resident of Golmuri Tuiladungri A Block, was tricked into transferring ₹1.74 lakh by scamsters posing as police officers.
According to the FIR filed by Dr. Naredi’s wife, Ranju Kumari Agarwal, at the Golmuri police station, the incident occurred on December 8 at around 5 PM. A call was received on their son’s mobile phone from someone claiming to be a police officer. The caller, dressed in police uniform, alleged that a girl had filed a case against the son and threatened jail term.
The scamsters even arranged a conversation with a fake SP to intensify the threat. Frightened by the allegations, Dr. Naredi’s son transferred ₹1.74 lakh in multiple instalments to the fraudsters’ account.
Police have begun investigating the case and are tracing the person behind the mobile number used in the scam.
