Jamshedpur, Jan 5: A case of cyber fraud has come to light from the Parsudih police station area after Rs 2.84 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from a bank account when an ATM card got stuck in the machine.

The incident took place at an Axis Bank ATM located in Karandih.

The victim, identified as Bhim Soren, a resident of Sundarnagar, stated that the incident took place on December 28.

Soren had visited the Karandih Axis Bank ATM to withdraw cash, but despite inserting his ATM card, no money was dispensed.

Moments later, his card got stuck inside the machine.
He made repeated attempts to retrieve the card, but failed.

With no assistance available late in the evening, he left the ATM and returned home.

Shortly afterwards, he began receiving a series of alert messages from the bank on his mobile phone, indicating multiple withdrawals from his account.

The messages left him shocked, as a total of Rs 2,84,449 had been withdrawn through different transactions within a short span of time.

Soren informed the police that due to a bank holiday following the incident, he could not immediately obtain his account statement, which led to a delay in lodging the complaint.

Once the bank confirmed the unauthorized transactions, he approached the Parsudih police station and submitted a written complaint.

Based on his statement, the police have registered an FIR against unknown persons and initiated an investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest possible tampering with the ATM or the use of skimming devices.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the ATM premises and are also seeking technical details from the bank.

Meanwhile, officials urged people to remain vigilant while using ATMs.

They have advised customers to immediately inform the bank and police if an ATM card gets stuck or if any suspicious activity is noticed, and to avoid seeking help from unknown individuals.
