Jamshedpur: MLA of Jamshedpur West Saryu Roy distributed pamphlets to commuters in Sakchi on Sunday, urging them to scan the QR code at home to register their feedback. Roy warned the Railways that the Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti has chosen a peaceful means to register its protest, but that should not be mistaken for weakness.
“If necessary, we will block the railway tracks as the railways are openly flouting rules and regulations,” said Roy while speaking at the signature campaign organized at the Sakchi Roundabout on Sunday. “Our only demand is that the Railways put an end to the chronic train delays.”
The MLA demanded to know whose orders permit stalling passenger trains just to give passage to cargo trains. He questioned why railway infrastructure has expanded across the entire country but remains neglected at Tatanagar.
Movement Intensifies Across the City
The convenor of the Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti, Shiv Shankar Singh, noted that the movement is gaining significant momentum. He announced that the signature campaign will move to Burmamines on May 18 and to Mango on May 19, followed by a massive campaign in Ghatshila on May 24.
Singh added that people from various areas of East Singhbhum are actively protesting train delays on social media. If necessary after the signature campaign, the committee will take their grievances straight to the Railway Minister’s doorstep.
Core Members Voice Public Frustration
Several prominent leaders spoke out during the campaign:
- Subodh Srivastava described the movement as highly encouraging and expressed confidence that their voice would reach the Railway Minister.
- Kanhaiya Singh warned that the Railways is making a huge mistake by taking the protesters lightly, adding that railway employees themselves are suffering due to the constant delays.
- Satish Singh alleged that the Chakradharpur Division is mired in corruption.
- Ajay Kumar asserted that the administration will have to run trains on time because the public will eventually force their hand.
- Usha Yadav emphasized that train delays directly hit the common passenger.
- Kulwinder Singh Pannu argued that prioritizing freight trains over passenger trains is fundamentally wrong.
