Jamshedpur: In a decisive step to curb illegal mining, transportation and storage of minerals, the District Mining Office launched an extensive raid campaign on Wednesday night under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi. The drive, which continued till late hours, was aimed at checking rampant illegal activities causing loss to government revenue and posing a threat to natural resources.
During the operation, a major breakthrough was achieved when officials unearthed illegal storage of nearly 10,500 Cft of sand mineral in Mauja Chandanpur under Shyamsundarpur police station area. The sand stock was immediately seized on the spot and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Shyamsundarpur police station against the concerned individuals.
In another coordinated action, the raiding team intercepted two Hiva trucks engaged in illegal transportation of sand near Kaju Garden, Bhalki turn, under the Dhalbhumgarh police station area. The vehicles, bearing registration numbers JH05BZ-4154 and JH05CB-6407, were found ferrying sand minerals without valid permits. Both trucks were seized on the spot and an FIR was lodged at Dhalbhumgarh police station against the culprits.
The district administration has made it clear that it will not tolerate illegal extraction and movement of minerals. Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi has instructed all concerned departments to keep a strict vigil and conduct regular surprise inspections in vulnerable areas. “Illegal mining not only causes huge revenue loss to the government but also damages the environment and disturbs the ecological balance. Strong measures will be taken to stop such practices,” officials stated.
The administration has also appealed to the general public to cooperate in reporting instances of illegal mining and assured that strict punitive measures will be taken against offenders. It has been emphasized that such drives will continue as part of a sustained campaign to protect mineral wealth and ensure that mining activities are carried out only through authorized and regulated channels.
