Counseling sessions at KSMS to enhance parenting skills

Jamshedpur, April 21: KSMS organized series of counseling sessions for the parents of L. Kg. to Std. 12 from April 4 to 9. The purpose was to enhance parenting skills and share knowledge about child�s emotions and reactions.

The motive was to give the knowledge and skills needed to help a child to make healthy choice and prevent a child from using drugs. The session elaborated on the changes in behavior that students go through in their teens (pre-puberty, puberty and adolescence) and the emotional need of teens.

To aware the parents on what to expect when children reach that age and how to empathetically tackle their issues the parents were updated on honest role-modeling, basic of communication and ways of monitoring the child without policing them.

Videos on anger management gender equity and role-modeling provided edutainment. Sessions closed with request from parents to conduct such sessions frequently. Theses session were conducted by the registrar Nishi Thakur.

Simultaneously, school principal Nandini Shukla, and the vice-principal conducted orientation sessions for parents detailing the school rules, expectations and cooperation requested from parents.

She proposed some new personality development projects for students� development like open house day, leadership classes for students and the �Curious Me.�

Motivated, the parents requested the principal to carry ahead with these programs. She also announced that counseling would be available for children with the registrar on Tuesdays and Fridays after 11 a.m. and with the principal on Saturdays for the seniors.
