Jamshedpur: In a shocking daylight murder, Congress worker and Tiger Club owner Alok Kumar, popularly known as Alok Munna, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Tuesday morning in Shastrinagar Road No. 4 under the Kadma police station area.
The assailants ambushed Alok and fired four bullets at him from close range, causing him to collapse on the spot. He was rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where doctors declared him dead. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and began an investigation.
Former Minister Banna Gupta and senior police officials also visited the site. Tensions escalated as supporters of the deceased clashed with the Kadma police station in-charge, resulting in a physical altercation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the murder was allegedly carried out by Chhotu Bachha alias Prakash Singh, Akash Singh, Mohit Singh, and their accomplices. Alok’s family claimed that the murder was an act of revenge following a brawl between Alok and Chhotu during Kali Puja and election activities.
In retaliation, Alok’s family and supporters stormed Chhotu Bachha’s residence, creating chaos. The police intervened to control the situation. The bereaved family has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and stern action against them.
Alok Munna had a history of criminal cases and was recently released from prison. His involvement in politics under protection made him a controversial figure. Heavy police deployment has been made in Shastrinagar to prevent further violence, and raids are underway to apprehend the attackers.
A Political murder, says Banna Gupta
Jamshedpur: Reacting to the incident, former Minister Banna Gupta called it a political murder. He alleged that the killers were associated with BJP-supported MLA Saryu Roy and accused them of fostering crime in the city. Gupta warned of protests if the accused were not arrested promptly. He also stated that several Congress workers have received similar threats and demanded immediate action from the police. If necessary, he vowed to escalate the matter to the DGP and Chief Minister.
Saryu Roy accuses Banna Gupta of protecting rival criminal gangs
Jamshedpur, Dec 18: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has alleged that criminal gangs operating under the protection of Banna Gupta have now turned against each other. He claimed that the recent murder of Alok Bhagat in Shastri Nagar was the result of a feud between these gangs, which were previously supported by Gupta.
In a statement, Saryu Roy stated that the criminal elements, who were used by Banna Gupta to instil fear and terror in Jamshedpur over the past five years, were now themselves living in fear. He emphasized that this fear stemmed not from external forces, but from internal conflicts among the same criminal factions.
Roy urged the police to investigate these developments and expose the environment of fear created by Banna Gupta. He further suggested that the intelligence department should gather necessary information to prevent such incidents in future. Roy expressed hope that the Jamshedpur police would thoroughly investigate the situation and uncover the full details behind the murder.
He also claimed that Gupta himself was now feeling the consequences of supporting these criminal gangs, which were now turning against each other. Saryu Roy called on the police to take proactive measures to identify and dismantle the criminal network associated with Gupta.
