Jharkhand to see light rainfall, fog over next 48 hrs: IMD

Jamshedpur: Southern Jharkhand is set to experience light rainfall in the next 48 hours, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) office in Ranchi. The forecast highlights that districts like East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Seraikela-Kharsawan are likely to receive rainfall due to a cyclonic circulation caused by a passing Western Disturbance.
A duty officer at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre elaborated on the phenomenon, saying, “The Western Disturbance is triggering a cyclonic circulation, which will influence parts of Jharkhand. This will bring light rainfall in isolated areas, particularly in the southern part of the state.”
The IMD has also issued an alert for moderate to shallow fog across isolated regions of Jharkhand over the next two days. This could potentially disrupt visibility, especially during early mornings and late evenings.
In addition to the rainfall forecast, Jharkhand has witnessed a gradual rise in minimum temperatures over the past couple of days. This trend is expected to persist, providing a slight respite from the biting cold that had gripped the region earlier this month.
Today, Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 9°C, while Jamshedpur registered 9.5°C. Other notable recordings included Daltonganj at 7.5°C and Bokaro at 9.2°C. These figures mark a significant increase compared to last week when several parts of the state experienced minimum temperatures as low as 5°C.
The sudden changes in weather patterns could impact daily life and agricultural activities. Farmers in the affected areas have been advised to take necessary precautions to protect their crops from unexpected rainfall. Citizens, especially commuters, are urged to be cautious while traveling due to the likelihood of foggy conditions.
Weather experts have noted that Western Disturbances during the winter months often lead to sudden changes in climatic conditions. These systems, originating from the Mediterranean region, bring moisture-laden winds that can result in rain, fog, and fluctuating temperatures in northern and eastern parts of India.
A senior meteorologist explained, “Jharkhand’s geographical location makes it susceptible to the influence of both Western Disturbances and easterly winds. While rainfall in December is not uncommon, such events underline the dynamic nature of the region’s weather during the transition from autumn to winter.”
The IMD has forecasted continued fluctuation in temperatures over the coming week. While minimum temperatures will likely remain on the higher side, daytime temperatures are expected to stay in the comfortable range of 22-25°C.
