Concerns over traffic and infrastructure issues in Jamshedpur

Jam-packed streets and overloaded trucks highlight growing problem

Jamshedpur: The Burmamines area, especially around the Station Road, is facing significant traffic and infrastructure challenges. Hundreds of heavy vehicles, including overloaded trucks, cross the Burmamines Bridge every day, raising concerns about the bridge’s structural integrity. While the station bridge continues to carry heavy loads, experts warn that its condition may be deteriorating under the weight of daily traffic.

The situation is exacerbated by the frequent traffic jams caused by tempo drivers, who often block the road and the ongoing encroachment on Station Road by the roadside vegetable market. Although there is a traffic police post near Sankata Singh Petrol Pump, its focus remains mainly on trucks descending from the Burmamines Bridge. However, it seems little attention is paid to managing the congestion created by auto and tempo drivers on the main road, contributing to further traffic bottlenecks.

At night, the situation worsens as heavy trucks, many of which are overloaded, frequently pass through the station area, further taxing the already weak infrastructure. Local commuters report that the main road sees large crowds in the late evening, with vehicles parked on the road as people shop for vegetables. This only adds to the traffic chaos, as the heavy vehicles continue to pass through at high speeds.

As a result, there is growing concern among residents and commuters alike, with calls for better enforcement of traffic rules and more robust action to remove unauthorized vehicles and regulate the roadside vegetable market. Many believe that if action is not taken soon, the issue will worsen, leading to even greater safety risks and further damage to the already strained infrastructure.
