Jamshedpur: Biting winter conditions continued to prevail across Jharkhand on Tuesday as large parts of the state reeled under a cold wave, with night temperatures dipping well below normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi, reported.
Gumla emerged as the coldest location, where the minimum temperature plunged to a freezing 2.3°C. Bokaro was also in the grip of a cold wave, reflecting the widespread severity of the chill across the state.
In Ranchi, both day and night temperatures stayed below the seasonal average. The maximum temperature was recorded at 21.6°C, while the minimum dropped to 7.5°C, making the weather noticeably colder than usual.
Jamshedpur saw comparatively milder daytime conditions, with the mercury touching 26.2°C. However, the cold intensified after sunset, as the night temperature slipped to around 10°C, slightly lower than what is typical for this time of year.
Meanwhile, Deoghar experienced dense morning fog, reducing visibility to about 800 metres and disrupting routine activities in the early hours. Weather officials said the current atmospheric pattern is likely to sustain these conditions.
Cold wave situations and foggy mornings are expected to continue in several districts, keeping Jharkhand under a prolonged spell of chilly winter weather in the coming days.
