Jamshedpur: The cerebral malaria outbreak in Potka block continues to pose a challenge for the Health Department, with 41 fresh malaria cases detected during a special screening drive conducted.
A total of 985 people were tested on the fourth day of the intensive surveillance campaign, and all infected individuals have been started on treatment in their respective villages. Health officials said the condition of the patients is being closely monitored to prevent complications.
Health camps held in affected villages
Under the supervision of Community Health Centre In-charge Dr Rajni Mahakud, special health camps were organised in several malaria-affected villages, including Kundrukocha, Narda, Dungritola, Jharia, Tangrain and Sabar Tola.
Medical teams also reached remote forest areas to conduct malaria screening among Sabar families. Along with testing, the Health Department continued door-to-door insecticide spraying and awareness campaigns to curb the spread of the disease.
Residents urged to seek early testing
Dr Mahakud appealed to residents not to panic and advised them to drink only chlorinated or boiled water and to use mosquito nets regularly to prevent mosquito bites.
She urged people experiencing even mild fever to immediately contact the nearest ANM or health worker for malaria testing and prompt treatment, stating that early diagnosis and timely medication remain the most effective measures to control the outbreak.
