CM advocates Domicile Policy on Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand lines

Ranchi/Jamshedpur Dec 30: Chairing a meeting of the high level Domicile Policy Draft Committee today at Project Bhawan, chief minister Hemant Soren stated that a close study of provisions made by the state governments of Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand on the subject be made while formulating the Domicile Policy for Jharkhand.
Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand attained statehood on the same date as Jharkhand.

The meeting agreed that the work for formulating the Jharkhand Domicile Policy should commence at the regional level. This step would include holding meetings with district officials for gathering minute details for the purpose (of formulating the Domicile Policy).

State ministers Rajendra Prasad Singh, Champai Soren, Yogendra Sao and Suresh Paswan participated in the meeting along with legislators Dr Sarfaraz Ahmad, Lobin Hembram, Bandhu Tirkey and Vidyut Baran Mahato.

The Jharkhand government has assured that the draft for Domicile policy would be formulated by February 20 and may be tabled during the Assembly�s Budget session. The chief minister�s announcement to the effect would keep the Committee busy in three discussions at the state capital during the months of January and February, 2014.

However, reaction to the Domicile Policy Draft Committee�s meeting outcome today at Ranchi was met with Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) protests. Party officials and cadres burnt effigies of AJSU, JMM and BJP parties at Karandih this evening in protest.
