CII Jharkhand Green Conclave 2024: Leaders deliberate on building a future-ready green ecosystem

Tata Steel UISL MD Ritu Raj Sinha calls for unified commitment to sustainability across corporates and individuals

Jamshedpur, Aug 28: The CII Jharkhand Green Conclave, held on August 28, 2024, at the Centre for Excellence in Jamshedpur, brought together industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss the future of sustainability under the theme “Creating Future Ready Green Ecosystem.” Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the event aimed to explore emerging green technologies and strategies to achieve net-zero emissions, reduce waste, and foster environmental stewardship.

Ranjot Singh, Chairman of the CII Jharkhand State Council and Managing Director of Emdet Jamshedpur Private Limited, inaugurated the conclave, emphasizing the critical importance of sustainable practices in today’s world. He urged collective action, stating, “Green and sustainability is a very serious subject. We all must get together. What to do can be found, and when to do it is now, but how to do it is the challenge we must overcome together. As a nation, we have to become Net Zero.”

Dr. Amit Ranjan Chakraborty, Convenor of the CII Jharkhand Sustainability, Environment Energy Panel & Chief Environment, Tata Steel Ltd, highlighted the need for awareness and sensitivity towards sustainability. He stressed the importance of the three pillars of sustainability—Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG)—and warned of the potential for catastrophic consequences if immediate action is not taken.

Ritu Raj Sinha, Vice Chairman of the CII Jharkhand State Council and Managing Director of Tata Steel UISL, called for a collective commitment to sustainability at both corporate and individual levels. He underscored the interconnectedness of industries, towns, and individuals in the journey towards a sustainable future, stating, “Everything that we do has an impact. Everyone is integrated – the industries, the towns, and the individuals.”

N Muthusezhiyan, Deputy Executive Director of the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, emphasized that “green” should be viewed as a crucial compliance for businesses today, with climate adaptation and resource efficiency being at the forefront of efforts to create a sustainable future.

Rohit Goyal, Co-Convenor of the CII Jharkhand MSME Panel and Managing Director of IEMCO Industries Ltd, highlighted the importance of ESG integration for MSMEs, stating that it enhances their competitive edge by fostering sustainability, resilience, and ethical practices. He called on industries to lead by example in the journey towards net-zero emissions.

The conclave featured insights from various eminent speakers, including professors from XLRI, industry leaders, and sustainability experts, who shared their perspectives on innovative strategies to drive collective action towards achieving a greener, more resilient future. Participants gained valuable knowledge on the latest trends in sustainability and ESG, and the event provided ample networking opportunities for forging partnerships and exploring new business prospects.

The CII Jharkhand Green Conclave 2024 served as a crucial platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and action, aiming to chart a course for a sustainable, future-ready green ecosystem in India.
