Amrit Gope, the goalkeeper for Jamshedpur FC, recently shared the story of his remarkable journey from the small village of Hurlung in Birsanagar (Jamshedpur) to the prestigious Indian Super League (ISL). In an interview, Amrit revealed how his passion for football was ignited in childhood, heavily influenced by his elder brothers.

Growing up in Hurlung, Amrit’s love for football was nurtured at home. His elder brother, who played as a goalkeeper, served as his primary inspiration. “I became a goalkeeper after seeing my brother, and today, I am playing in the position of a goalkeeper. I learned football only after seeing my brother,” Amrit recalled. This early passion led him to participate in local tournaments with his village team, where his talent quickly became evident.

From JSA League to Jamshedpur FC

Amrit’s first major break came when he joined the JSA League, playing for Park India. His standout performances caught the attention of scouts, leading to his selection for the Hindustan FC U-18 team. After impressing at the U-18 level, Amrit returned to Jamshedpur, where he played in the JSA League for Tata Motors and represented Jharkhand in the Santosh Trophy. His performances eventually earned him a spot on the Jamshedpur FC reserve team.

However, his journey was not without its challenges. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought football to a halt, disrupting his progress. Despite this setback, Amrit remained determined, joining Trau FC, where he played for two years before moving to Bengaluru FC.

A Hero’s Welcome in Hurlung

Upon returning to his village, Amrit discovered that he had become a local hero. “Now when I go to my village in Hurlung, everyone knows me, and they’ve started knowing my family through me, which makes me feel good,” he shared. The pride he feels in representing his family and bringing recognition to them through his football career is evident.

Homecoming: The Return to Jamshedpur FC

In a full-circle moment, Amrit has returned to Jamshedpur FC, fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing for his hometown club. “I am feeling very good after coming to Jamshedpur because I have my city, I have my own house. Being able to play in my own home, I am feeling very good playing in front of my home crowd,” he expressed with pride.

As the new ISL season approaches, Amrit and his teammates are preparing to make their mark under the guidance of coach Khalid Jamil. “It feels good to play under Khalid sir because he is an Indian coach and an Indian pillar. He is training us well, and we are doing well,” Amrit remarked.

Amrit’s journey is a testament to perseverance and dedication. He expressed deep gratitude for the support of Jamshedpur FC fans, urging them to continue being the team’s 12th man. “Please come and support us. We are your team, and we will play together,” he appealed.
