Jamshedpur, Mar 19: The outbreak of chickenpox in East Singhbhum district has raised concerns as cases continue to rise. So far, three blocks—Chakulia, Dumria and Ghatshila—have been affected by the disease. Taking the situation seriously, the Union Health Ministry has dispatched a team from Mumbai, which will visit the district on Tuesday to assess the situation.
The team will focus on Dumria block, where they will visit affected villages and interact with patients to understand the reasons behind the rapid spread of chickenpox. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation and according to Dr. Sahir Pal, Civil Surgeon, an intensive investigation and awareness campaign have been launched in the district. “A total of 64 cases of chickenpox have been identified so far, but the situation is currently under control,” he stated.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Asad informed that 14 samples were collected, out of which 12 tested positive for chickenpox. “The disease spreads through direct contact with respiratory droplets, skin rashes and wounds of infected individuals. Awareness campaigns are being carried out to educate people about the preventive measures,” he added.
Health experts suggest that the risk of chickenpox increases during summer due to greater outdoor activity and exposure to heat, leading to skin infections. The Central Health Department team will conduct thorough investigations and submit their findings to the ministry.
