New Delhi (IANS): National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders voiced strong confidence on Thursday that the BJP will form “double-engine governments” in West Bengal and Assam following multiple exit poll projections. While expressing optimism for the party’s performance in West Bengal and Assam, leaders also predicted a “surprise result” in Kerala and strong gains in Tamil Nadu.
Projections Show Shift in Political Landscape
Several exit polls suggest a significant electoral shift across multiple states:
- West Bengal: The Matrize exit poll projects the BJP will secure between 146–161 seats with a 42.5% vote share.
- Assam: JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad stated that almost all surveys indicate a “massive mandate” for the BJP in Assam.
- Kerala: Matrize forecasts a close contest, projecting the Congress-led UDF at 70–75 seats and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) at 60–65 seats.
- Tamil Nadu: Projections suggest the DMK-led alliance will retain power in the 234-seat Assembly.
NDA Reactions and Voter Turnout
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat remarked that the people of Bengal have “made up their mind for change”. Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi noted that a “peaceful and fear-free environment” allowed many previously deprived citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Shahnawaz Hussain, BJP National Spokesperson, claimed that a BJP government in West Bengal is as certain as the “sunrise”. Meanwhile, JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha confirmed that feedback from journalists and neighboring political circles points to an NDA victory in the state.
Counting Day
Despite the celebratory mood, leaders like Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak advised waiting for the official counting. The final results will be released on May 4.
