Teen Killed in Lightning Strike near Jamshedpur

Seraikela: A tragic incident was reported from Ghutai village under Nimdih police station area in Seraikela district, where a teenage boy died after being struck by lightning during a storm early Wednesday morning.

According to information received, the victim, identified as Vikas, aged around 15–16 years, had gone to the fields and was returning home at dawn when the weather suddenly turned severe. Gusty winds, thunder, and heavy rainfall began abruptly. In an attempt to take shelter from the rain, the boy stood under a tree. Tragically, lightning struck the spot, killing him on the spot.

Family members rushed him to the Community Health Centre in Nimdih for immediate medical attention, but doctors declared him dead after examination.

The incident has plunged the village into deep mourning, with grieving family members inconsolable over the untimely loss.

Notably, incidents of lightning strikes have increased in the Kolhan region over the past few days, accompanied by frequent thunderstorms and heavy rain. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning urging residents to remain cautious over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Nimdih police have sent the body for a post-mortem. The district administration has appealed to the public to avoid taking shelter under trees or standing in open fields and near electric poles during thunderstorms, and to seek safe shelter during extreme weather conditions.
