Jamshedpur, Feb 10: The Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) has strongly opposed the Maharashtra government’s decision to reduce the number of Sikh representatives in the Nanded Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee.

The Sikh community of Jamshedpur under the banner of CGPC protested against this decision at the district headquarters on Saturday and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra through the Deputy Commissioner. Sardar Bhagwan Singh, the head of CGPC, stated that the action taken by the Maharashtra government was highly condemnable and hurt the sentiments of Sikhs, which CGPC strongly opposed.

He mentioned that the Maharashtra government had arbitrarily amended the law governing the management board of Takht Shri Hazur Sahib, Nanded. The number of nominated members of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) in the board had been reduced.

He asserted that such oppression by the Maharashtra government would not be tolerated. Chairman Sardar Shailendra Singh also condemned the anti-Sikh decision in strong words, stating that the Sikh community would not tolerate any governmental interference in the administration of their sacred pilgrimage sites.
