Jamshedpur: A district-level mass yoga programme was organized at Khasmahal Durga Puja Ground near Sadar Hospital on Sunday to celebrate the 12th International Yoga Day. The event, held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” witnessed enthusiastic participation from district officials, security personnel, healthcare workers, yoga practitioners, and citizens, spreading the message of adopting yoga as a way of life for better health and well-being.
Deputy Commissioner leads celebrations
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Rajiv Ranjan attended the programme as the chief guest and participated in various yoga activities along with other officials. The event was also attended by the Deputy Development Commissioner, officers from different district administration departments, police personnel, members of central security forces, representatives of the Health and AYUSH departments, social organizations, public representatives, and a large number of residents.
Yoga instructors guide participants
The programme began with a series of yoga asanas, pranayama sessions, and meditation practices conducted under the guidance of trained yoga instructors. Participants performed the exercises collectively, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a healthy body, balanced mind, and positive lifestyle through regular yoga practice.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan described yoga as India’s ancient and invaluable heritage that has gained global recognition. He said regular yoga practice not only enhances physical fitness but also helps reduce mental stress and contributes to the overall development of an individual.
Emphasizing this year’s theme, he noted that yoga plays a significant role in enabling people to lead healthy, active, and self-reliant lives during old age. He urged citizens to incorporate yoga into their daily routine and inspire their families and communities to embrace the practice.
Awareness drive by AYUSH Department
During the event, the AYUSH Department conducted awareness activities highlighting the various dimensions of yoga, its health benefits, and its role in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Information was shared on how yoga can help prevent lifestyle-related ailments and improve overall quality of life.
