Jamshedpur, Oct. 30: IIT Kharagpur hosted the final rounds of a PAN India Competition �Young Innovators’ Program (YIP)� on technology ideation for young innovators from high school across the country. Students from various schools displayed their projects on how to solve the world’s problems.
The students came with a scientific innovation in the form of working models, diagrams or animations that can potentially solve a problem facing the globe. The program comprised of three rounds. The final round was held at IIT Kharagpur, this year on 28th and 29th October.
Carmel Junior College students kept the Carmel Banner flying high and made Jamshedpur proud again with their scientific innovation.
The two teams comprising of three students each were the finalists.
One of the teams made an E-cycle which runs on water and does not run on any fossil flues like petroleum and diesel. It does not cause any pollution.
The other team made a droid to sense the combustible and flammable gases at mines, industries and in home. It can be also used by defence forces.
The exhibition was open to visitors and seven IIT-KGP faculty members who judged the projects.
The students of cycle team included – Aditya Godde (Std X), Arvind Kedia ( Std X) and Ashmit Sinha (Std X).
The Droid team comprised of Anish Chakraborty (Std VIII), Ayush Mukherjee (Std VIII) and Rishit Purbey (Std VIII).
They were felicitated by the Dean and Professors of IIT Kharagpur on 29th October 2017. Teacher Prabha Prakash accompanied and mentored the students for these two projects.
The competition was conducted by Branding and Relations Cell (BARC), IIT Kharagpur for students belonging to 8th to 10th standard which covered major aspects such as Energy, Agriculture, Food, Environment, Hardware Modelling and Biotechnology.
Young Innovators’ Program-2017 welcomed students from classes 8, 9 and 10 to come up with scientific solutions to the current global problems in the given themes. Organised in 4 rounds, 30 best teams got an opportunity to present their ideation at IIT Kharagpur. 24 best teams were short listed from the 500 teams. Six out of these semi finalists had to present the model and PPT�s to the professors of IIT Kharagpur.
Launched in April, the YIP is a platform to foster young minds – students from class VIII to X – with scientific enthusiasm and a credo to solve the problems facing the globe.
