50-year-old morning walker crushed to death in Jamshedpur’s Bhuiyandih

Jamshedpur : In yet another fatal road mishap, a trailer crushed to death a 50-year-old morning walker Dinesh Sharma at the Bhuiyandih Main Road under Sitaramdera police station area early Tuesday morning.
A carpenter by profession and a resident of Nirmal Nagar at Humepipe under Sitaramdera area the victim was his daily routine of walking at the Bhuiyandih Main Road.

Soon after the mishap the local residents gathered at the spot and started assaulting the cleaner of the truck. The driver of the heavy vehicle fled the spot after the mishap but be was nabbed later and sent to jail.
As the news spread, the Sitaramdera police reached the spot soon after getting the information. The body was sent to the MGM Medical College morgue in Dimna for a post-mortem. The trailer was later seized.

The family members were immediately paid Rs 20,000 as per government norms for performing the last rites.
Officer-in-charge of Sitaramdera police station, Bhushan Kumar, rushed to the spot after getting information said the driver of the truck was arrested. ” We are investigating the mishap. The owner of the trailer also agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the victim’s family and Rs 5000 each to the push-cart owner and the house which was partially damaged,” said Kumar.

Although the traffic department has put up hoardings at several thoroughfares across the city as part of its bid to spread traffic rule awareness among people, particularly teenagers, there has not been much effect of the exercise.

“The rising cases of road accidents are a matter of great concern. We are trying to hard to educate people thorough different ways. We have put these hoardings with the help of private agencies. Like in past we are also planning to observe Safety Month in association with SAFE Club in order to inculcate the importance of safety among the youths,” said a police official.
