Two-day short film festival concludes at Centre for Excellence

Jamshedpur: The two-day Short Film Festival 2024 concluded on Sunday, November 24, at the Centre for Excellence, Bistupur, under the leadership of Tech 5 Communication, Kolkata. Over the weekend, a total of 20 short films spanning multiple genres and languages, including Hindi, English, Bengali, and a silent film, were screened. The films ranged in duration from 2 to 27 minutes, with several enjoying national and international acclaim.
On Sunday, the festival featured films like Akshay Vat, Vidai, Jeevan Kaal Mrityu, Apna Time Kab Aayega, Maanvi, Protibimbo, Khatre Ki Ghanti, Badal Ko Rang Do, Dekh Gayi Mahila, and ITI Renu. Saturday’s screenings included notable works such as Khali Ghoshal, Mehram, Megher Arale, 84 Saal… Ek Lambi Yatra, Rahasya, Jamura, Rog Koi Ilaaj Vahi, Mishti, Suryaastha, and Kanak.
Tathagata Bhattacharjee, head of Tech 5 Communication and film director, highlighted the festival’s non-competitive nature, emphasizing its role as a platform for learning and collaboration between budding filmmakers and seasoned directors. “Career opportunities in filmmaking have expanded significantly, with Jharkhand-based artists and Jamshedpur talents finding their space in short films,” Bhattacharjee remarked. He added that the quality of filmmaking has been steadily improving, driven by increasing opportunities and resources.
The festival, which has been running for 17 years, is a collaborative effort of the Society for Promotion of Professional Excellence (SPPE), Jamshedpur, and Tech 5 Communications, Kolkata, with support from Tata Steel. Center for Excellence head Merlin F Anklesaria, theatre artist Gautam Shankar Das, and Siddharth Sen also played key roles in ensuring the event’s success.
