CAIT welcomes Jan Vishwas Bill tabled in Parliament

Jamshedpur, Dec 28: The Jan Vishwas Bill presented by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on December 22 in the Parliament will go a long way to mitigate the sufferings of traders and citizens on account of even minor lapses, said Suresh Sonthalia National Secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

He further said that it will promote ease of doing business since the Bill aims to decriminalise 183 provisions of 42 Acts administered by 19 Ministries. It is certainly going to build mutual trust between the Government and the citizens.

Sonthalia reminded that though Modi Government has scrapped large number of archaic laws in the past but recently the initiative of Piyush Goyal to decriminalise some sections of Legal Metrology Act and recently the meeting of GST Council also decided to decriminalise some provisions of GST Act and now the Jan Vishwas Bill truly reflect the intent of the Government to provide congenial and harmonious business atmosphere in the Country.

CAIT said that domestic trade in the Country is still suffered with hoards of old and archaic laws which have lost significance in the present context and such laws and Acts either should be abrogated or time needed amendments may be brought in such laws in pursuance of the vision of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi. Besides the decriminalisation of minor offences, this step will rationalise monetary penalties, depending on the gravity of the offence instead of initiating criminal proceedings.
