Chaibasa, August 31: West Singhbhum District Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest near the sub-divisional office in protest against the brutal murder of Jharkhand’s daughter, Ankita of Dumka who died of severe burn injuries. Angry BJP leaders and workers said that the party would continue with massive agitation until Ankita’s killer was hanged and would relentlessly continue efforts for overthrowing the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government.
Agitated BJP leaders, during the sit-in demonstration, averred that while Ankita’s family were grieving their irreparable loss, the state government ministers and MLAs were sitting back and looking the other way. The BJP leaders said that state citizens, especially girls and women were not safe under the JMM-Congress combined government. They accused the government of sheltering criminals. They said that 5 thousand cases of rape had been registered in the state in two and a half years but the criminals had not been booked. BJP women leaders during the demonstration said that the prevailing situation in Jharkhand was such that women feared to venture out of home. They said mothers were constantly worried about their daughters’ safety. They said that Ankita could have survived had she been air-lifted to AIIMS in Delhi or Deoghar instead of being left to die at RIMS in Ranchi. After the demonstration, all BJP leaders and workers, led by the party’s Mahila Morcha took out a procession in the form of Akrosh Yatra and at Jain Chowk they burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The BJP protesters included Akshay Khatri, Durgavati Boipai, Chandan Jha, Shambhu Hazra and many other party leaders and members.
