Jamshedpur: Former minister and Congress leader Banna Gupta on Thursday accused the BJP-led Central and state governments of being despotic and anti-people.

In a press statement issued today, Gupta, who was kept in house arrest at his Kadma residence in view of the Jharkhand bandh called by opposition parties, said, The BJP governments at the centre and in Jharkhand are working against the larger interest of the people. The way I have been kept under house arrest there is not a shadow of doubt that the government has lost the trust of the people. This is why the administration went all out to stop bandh supporters.

Gupta said the Jharkhand government was trying to prevent its critics and opponents in order to remain in power. He said 263 bandh supporters were arrested and kept at the Kadma police station during the bandh.

The bandh supporters opposed the house arrest of Banna Gupta. They said the police feared that Guptas presence would make the bandh highly successful.

Among those arrested during bandh included Manoj Jha, Babua Jha, Sanjay Tiwary, Ravi Dubey, Prakash Sahu, Dinesh Agrawal, Pintu Singh, Prabhat Thakur, Amit Prasad, Sanjeev Jha, Durga Singh, Pankaj Jha and Ashutosh Singh.
