Assistant sub-inspector commits suicide in West Singhbhum

Jamshedpur: In a tragic incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Krishna Sahu, aged 45, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver early on Wednesday morning at his residence under the Jeraikela Thana area in West Singhbhum district. Sahu, a resident of Kulabira village in Gumla district, reportedly died on the spot from a single shot, sending shockwaves among his fellow policemen.

The incident was discovered shortly after, with Jeraikela Thana Officer-in-Charge Ankit Kumar and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Paras Rana arriving at the scene to assess the situation. They quickly contacted Sahu’s family members in Gumla to inform them of the tragedy.

ASI Sahu had been posted at Jeraikela Thana since 2021, following his promotion from the rank of Havildar. According to sources within the police department, he had been under immense work pressure and had limited opportunities to visit his family, consisting of his wife, two sons, and two daughters.

Fellow policemen and representatives of the Police Association expressed their belief that the prolonged stress Sahu faced due to his demanding job might have contributed to his decision to take his own life. However, senior police officers are still investigating the exact reasons behind the suicide.

As the police probe into the incident continues, this tragic loss highlights the pressing issue of stress and mental health struggles within the force, raising questions about the support systems in place for officers under high-pressure situations.
