Jamshedpur: A joint encroachment removal campaign was launched in Adityapur under the cooperation of the Adityapur Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police, and local police on Thursday, . Bulldozers were used to demolish hut-like shops built illegally along the roads near the Adityapur Police Station Road and the Sub Health Centre. This move has caused significant distress among shopkeepers who have been operating on these streets for years.
The campaign was led by Dy. Municipal Commissioner Parul Singh and supported by officials such as Gamharia Zone Inspector Pramod Singh, Traffic In-charge Rajesh Kumar, and Adityapur Police Station In-charge Rajiv Kumar. The Municipal Corporation had earlier informed shopkeepers about the encroachment removal through announcements on December 2.

Many shopkeepers, who had been operating their businesses for years, expressed frustration and uncertainty about their future. Vijay Kumar, who ran a shop on Thana Road for 19 years, lamented, “Although the Municipal Corporation had informed us earlier, losing my livelihood has left me devastated.” The removal of these illegal structures is part of the Municipal Corporation’s plan to create a designated vending zone near the Durga Temple. However, this plan has been delayed due to the construction of a water tank at the proposed site.
Despite the hardship faced by the shopkeepers, the removal campaign is seen as a necessary step for urban planning and to curb illegal encroachments in the area.
