Jamshedpur: Devotees marked the spiritual climax of Jwara Puja today with a ceremonial immersion, offering prayers for global welfare and the fulfillment of sacred vows. The rituals concluded the nine-day Chaitra Navratri Akhand Jyot celebrations at the Shri Shri Sheetla Mata Temple in Tuiladungri.
The Shobha Yatra: A Devotional Procession
Thousands of participants joined a grand Shobha Yatra to escort 23 Akhand Jyots (eternal flames) that burned continuously throughout the festival. The procession transformed the streets into a vibrant display of faith:
-
Sacred Discipline: Women led the march in disciplined rows, carrying urns of flourishing Jwara sprouts and eternal flames upon their heads.
-
Community Spirit: Youth and women movements commenced the route by cleaning and sprinkling water on the roads, while others showered flowers to sanctify the path.
-
Cultural Vibrancy: A Jash singing troupe from Chhattisgarh captivated onlookers with traditional performances, accompanied by chants and bhajans that echoed across the neighborhood.
Rituals and Symbolic Tableaux
The procession featured striking tableaux depicting the Goddess Durga, Narasimha Avatar, and Lord Hanuman. A devotee portraying a Baiga accompanied the march, symbolizing the living presence of the Mother Goddess. The community eventually reached Garhabasa, where they concluded the immersion rituals at a traditional well.
Honoring Tradition and Community
Following the immersion, Temple President Dinesh Kumar hosted thousands of devotees for Bhog Prasad at the temple premises. In keeping with longstanding tradition, the temple committee organized a ceremonial farewell—complete with aarti and coconut offerings—to honor the priests, Baigas, Pandas, and the visiting musical troupe for their roles in the nine-day festival.
Dozens of community leaders and members, including Raju Giri, Parmanand Kaushal, and Girdhari Sahu, joined the massive gathering to witness the final rites of this year’s Chaitra Navratri.
