Jamshedpur, Dec 5: To secure their livelihoods, street vendors from Mango, under the banner of the National Hawker Federation, met with the MLA of Jamshedpur West , Saryu Roy, to submit a memorandum requesting the establishment of a vending Market and vending Zone in the area. The delegation, which included Federation Secretary Uttam Chakraborty, members of the Town vending Committee, and several displaced vendors, congratulated Saryu Roy on his electoral victory and urged him to help organize the displaced shopkeepers. According to Chakraborty, the street vendors in Mango have been displaced for almost two years now, but despite this prolonged period, no vending zone or market has been identified, and the vendors continue to face threats of eviction.

Chakraborty further pointed out that under the Street Vendors Livelihood Protection and Regulation Act, 2014, those who possess a street vendor certificate issued by the government have the legal right to be allotted space in a vending zone or vending market to secure their livelihood and operate with dignity. Despite the legal provisions, the vendors have not been provided any such facility. In response to the concerns raised, MLA Saryu Roy assured the delegation that a positive initiative would be taken. He stated that he would hold a meeting with the delegation and the Mango Municipal Corporation to work on a solution to the issue.

The meeting saw the participation of several important individuals, including Sunita Poyda, Satyendra Kumar, Krishna Sahu, Biren Poddar, Jitendra Kumar, Krishna Pramanik, Jitendra Gupta, Birendra Prasad, Mithilesh Kumar, Dilip Sao, Krishna Gorai, Purnachandra Gaud, Jagannath Gorai, Arjun, and Dilip Gorai, all of whom are actively working towards the welfare of the street vendors in Mango.
