Jamshedpur: The anglers of the steel city will vie for the ‘prize catch, at the scenic Jubilee Lake at Jubilee Park here at the annual JRD Tata Fishing Competition on July 29. The Jamshedpur Angling Club is organising their annual contest at Jubilee Lake. The fish lovers will participate.
The competition will be held from 6am to 5pm. The newly elected committee of the club released over 200kg of fish fries on Thursday night and a similar exercise will take place on Sunday.
To ensure the participating anglers have a good catch the Jubilee Lake has been closed for angling from the July 18 to July 28 so that the fish are hungry and the bite will be good.
Established in 1947, Jamshedpur Angling Club now has 162 members. Jusco has recently undertaken beautification projects of lakes at Jubilee Park, Beldih and Bara Flats near Sidhgora. “We also release fingerlings in the lakes during the month of July. This way fish of different classes are found in abundance in city lakes,” added another official.
The fish stock at the landmark lake got swollen after scores of aquatic life died due the presence of industrial effluents, heat and depleted oxygen supply this year.
Jusco has cleaned the lake and also released additional water besides installing three fountains to the existing six. Over 500kg of fish fries including rohu, calta, catfish and mrigal was also released in June to maintain the fish stock in the lake
Moreover, 70 participants from Kolkata, Kharagpur, Bhubaneswar, Ghatshila, Ranchi and Jamshedpur will participate in it.
“The event will be bigger this time. We have arranged accommodation for outstation anglers. We will also arrange food and refreshment for the participants,” said a club member.
