The state of the Swarnrekha River bank at Mango after the immersion of Goddess Kali idols and the debris strewn around is a sad commentary on the cleaning scenario. Ministers, legislators, parliamentarians and leaders of all political colours had been issuing directives at various Chhat Ghat sites to JNAC officials but with the disaster management department of the state government’s directives banning rituals at ghats of water bodies including rivers, it seems that the authorities concerned of maintaining such banks in ‘ship-shape’ condition for convenience of devotees, have now heaved a sigh of relief and are cooling their heels literally. ‘No Devotees, No Cleaning’ seemingly has become the order of the day.
