Ranchi, May 5: As the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 approaches, scrutiny on three Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand has concluded, leaving a total of 57 candidates vying for victory. The nomination process for Hazaribagh, Koderma, and Chatra seats has wrapped up, with candidates now having the option to withdraw their nominations by May 6.
Chatra constituency boasts 23 contenders, including prominent figures like BJP’s Kalicharan Singh, Congress’s Krishnanand Tripathi, and former Bahujan Samaj Party MP Nagmani. Additionally, 20 other candidates have entered the electoral arena, with the final list awaiting confirmation after the withdrawal deadline on Monday, May 6. Voting in Chatra is scheduled for May 20.
Similarly, Koderma Lok Sabha seat witnesses competition from 17 candidates, with BJP’s Annapurna Devi and Vinod Singh of the Communist Party (ML) among the contenders. The withdrawal deadline for Koderma is also May 6.
In Hazaribagh, a total of 17 candidates have emerged after scrutiny, including BJP’s MLA Manish Jaiswal and Congress’s Jai Prakash Patel. The Election Commission has deemed all candidates eligible, and the withdrawal window closes on May 6.
Meanwhile, the Gandey Assembly seat, a high-profile contest in Jharkhand, sees Kalpana Soren, wife of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, competing against BJP’s Dilip Verma. Eleven candidates are set to contest from Gandey Assembly constituency, with the withdrawal deadline coinciding with May 6.
The conclusion of nomination scrutiny sets the stage for intense electoral battles in Jharkhand, with candidates preparing to engage in spirited campaigns ahead of the polling day.
