Jamshedpur, April 4:  All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) Jharkhand state President Akhilesh Singh Yadav has demanded the central government to withdraw the decision of increasing toll rates immediately. He said that the imposition of enhanced toll tax was anti-people as the common citizens were already facing the impact of inflation in every strata. In a press release issued by the AIMTC state President stated, “Inflation has become the order of the day with diesel and petrol price hike becoming an almost daily feature.   Add to that the spiraling cost of daily necessities like vegetables and grocery items among others because of enhancement in transportation costs due to increased toll fees and the miseries of the common man may well be gauged.”

Akhilesh Singh Yadav pointed out that prior to the BJP regime, toll rates used to be increased between periods of 5 to 7 years but with the advent of BJP led government at the centre, the toll rates on expressways and state highways continued to push the rates higher with the drop of a hat. “The BJP government has embarked on a tyrannous economic ride to floor the lower and middle class people. As of April 1, vehicles are being charged anywhere between Rs 10 and Rs 40 over and above the last toll fee hike at every gate. This latest toll charge hike will have further deteriorating economic impact as bus and truck fares will increase by 10 to 15 percent which would further fan the inflationary fire and ultimately leading to the last nail being hammered into the common man’s financial coffin,” claimed the AIMTC Jharkhand unit President, Akhilesh Singh Yadav.

He further attributed the scalding and unrestrained rise in inflation to the wrong policies of the central government. Taking a dig at the BJP led government at the centre, he remarked, “Achchhey Din ke badley Keemti Din aaye.”  The AIMTC state President contended, “Due to increase in toll fare rates, the business class which is already in the throes of economic recession will also have to shoulder this hike burden. This tottering situation warrants the central government’s attention towards the plight of the poor and middle class and rollback its decision on toll hike immediately.”
