Jamshedpur, May 8: Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration cracked down on illegal mining mafia by confiscating seven truckloads of illegally mined sand on the National Highway 33 near Chandil, sources said.
According to sources, the crackdown was ordered by the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Chandil, Ranjeet Lohra.
Police said the trucks were stopped at a checkpost near Jhabri on the Chandil-Chowka route around 4 am. The drivers of the trucks could not show any documents related to mining permit to the police officials. Consequently, the vehicles were seized and taken to the CHandil police station, cops said.
The Chandil SDO had recently complained to the Seraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner Arava Rajkamal against the district mining officer Sunny Kumar. He accused the mining officer of involvement in the illegal mining of sand and stones in the district.
District administration has launched a drive against illegal mining activities in Adityapur, Gamharia and other parts of Seraikela-Kharsawan. A mining task force is raiding various river banks across the district to curb illegal mining of sand. Several dozens of vehicles carrying sand have been seized so far. In many areas, the illegal mining activities are carried out at night and sand so obtained is sent to Ranchi and various parts of Jamshedpur, sources said.
