6th Jamshedpur Run-a-thon offers Rs 5.37 lakh in prize money

4500 runners expected for the event on Nov 10

Jamshedpur, Nov 6: The sixth edition of Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is all set for the get set go mark on November 10.

Running enthusiasts from fourteen Indian States including those from far and wide such as Tamil Nadu have registered for the Jamshedpur Run this year. Ajay Kumar Bind from Uttar Pradesh � a Gold medalist in the 5KM category in the South Asian Games and an India team member in international cross-country championships will participate in the 10 KM Men Category. Samsad Ara Begum (Odisha) who was one of the winners last year as well as Basanti Hembrom from Tata Steel Training Centre, Jamshedpur who also won last year have registered for the event this year while another winner Arjun Tudu from Tata Steel has registered in the 10 KM Men category. The total prize money is Rs 5.37 lakh

On Sunday, November 10, 2019 the 10 KM run will kick-off from the Archery Ground, JRD Tata Sports Complex with the first race scheduled at 06:10 hours. This event is open for Indian Nationals only. 10 KM is the internationally-approved distance for road races by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The 7 KM run will flag off at 07:05 hours, the 5 KM run for boys at 7:50 hours and the 5 KM run for girls at 7:55 hours. The reporting time for 10-km run is 5.30 AM, 7-km run is 6.30 AM and 5-km run is 7 AM, said Ashish Kumar, Head Sports, Tata Steel.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Kumar informed, the distribution of Bib chip, T-shirts, Instruction Manual and refreshment coupons to the registered participants from in and around Jamshedpur has started from today at the specially created booths at the JRD Sports Complex and will continue till November 8. The participants from out-locations would be able to collect their kits comprising the above mentioned four items on November 9, 2019.

‘Tata Steel Runs’ mobile app has been launched this year which includes information about Jamshedpur, Noamundi and Bhubaneswar run.

Ashish further said that Tata Steel MD TV Narendran, Jusco MD, Uttam Singh along with senior officials of Tata Steel will participate in the 10 km run. Students of six city schools will also put up band at the route.

With more than 45% online registrations � signaling a growth in digital preference by the masses –  the Run-a-thon this year has received more than 4200 registrations till date. “We can accommodate 6500 runners but we are expecting 4500 running enthusiasts as registration is on till November 8,” said Ravi Radhakrishnan, Chief Aviation & Sports.

“There are one million registered runners in India and 1400 time running events which include Jamshedpur Run-a-thon. People of Jamshedpur need healthy lifestyle and this is our contribution towards fitness freaks of the city and the response has been great”, noted Radhakrishnan.

Parking areas have been denoted as Loyola Ground, Armoury Ground and the area in front of Bodhi Temple, Sakchi near Rajendra Vidyalaya School.
