Jamshedpur, Aug 19: The city police seized a major consignment of illegal liquor in Ulidih on Tuesday, but the driver of the vehicle managed to escape. Acting on a tip-off, police raided near Durga Mandir on Sankosai Road No. 1 and intercepted a tempo suspected of carrying illicit English liquor.
Upon inspection, 329 bottles of liquor packed in seven cartons were found. The seized brands included Royal Stag (90 bottles), Mack Doll (95 bottles), Sterling B-7 (48 bottles) and Iconic White (96 bottles). The tempo bearing registration number JH05X-9410 was confiscated along with the liquor.
Although the driver fled, police have registered a case and launched further investigation. An officer said, “The driver took advantage of the chaos to escape, but we have vital leads. The liquor was being transported illegally and strict action will follow.”
Authorities have hinted that the liquor racket in the region may have wider links and the investigation aims to identify the supply chain.
