17 school vehicles fined in Jamshedpur, 3 seized in drive  

Jamshedpur: To ensure the safe travel of children in school vehicles, Motor Vehicle Inspector  Suraj Hembram, under the leadership of the District Transport Officer, conducted a thorough inspection of 37 school vehicles near Garamanala Chowk in Sakchi. The special campaign aimed to check the fitness, registration, and overall compliance of school buses, autos, vans, and magic vehicles.

During the inspection, 17 school vehicles were fined for various violations, and 3 vehicles were seized for failing to meet safety standards.  Hembram emphasized the importance of safety measures in school transportation and urged all school operators in the district to adhere to these standards. He also requested parents to be vigilant about the safety of the vehicles their children travel in.

Parents were advised to check for the installation of gas kits, verify the validity of documents such as insurance, permits, fitness certificates, and driving licenses, and ensure all prescribed safety parameters are met. They should also ensure that the number of children in the vehicle does not exceed its capacity. If any violations are observed, parents are encouraged to inform the school management and the transport department immediately.

“The transport department will not allow unfit school vehicles to operate on the roads,” stated  Hembram. Newly appointed motor vehicle inspectors Nishant Kumar Mahato, Ishwar Lal Sahu, and other transport department employees also participated in the campaign.

The joint transport commissioner of the state has directed continuous checks on the validity of all certificates, including fitness, insurance, and pollution certificates for school vehicles. This action followed reports that non-compliant Maruti vans, magic vehicles, and auto-rickshaws were being operated in schools. The transport department’s ongoing campaign aims to ensure the fitness and registration of all school vehicles in the district.
