12 sheep killed by lightning in Jharkhand’s Manoharpur

Administration begins compensation process

Manoharpur, May 5: A lightning strike in Lemre village under Gangda Panchayat of Manoharpur block claimed the lives of 12 sheep belonging to seven villagers. The incident occurred as the animals were grazing near an electricity pole, which reportedly caught fire during the lightning strike.

In response, a team from the block administration and the Animal Husbandry Department visited the site on Monday to assess the situation and provide support. Among the officials present were Block Development Officer (BDO) Shakti Kunj, Circle Officer (CO) Pradeep Kumar, Block Welfare Officer Rajendra Bara, and Yogendra Kumar from the Animal Husbandry Department.

Sukhram Champiya, a resident of Tola Uttaragutu in Lemre, recounted that his sheep were grazing near the pole when the lightning struck, resulting in their death.

CO Pradeep Kumar assured the villagers concerned of compensation and instructed them to submit photocopies of their Aadhaar cards and bank passbooks for processing.

BDO Shakti Kunj also took note of other local issues during the visit, including two non-functional hand pumps, and promised to inform the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) for repairs.

Other officials, including AE Manya Muduiya and Panchayat Samiti member Rameshwar Champiya, were also present. The administration has assured timely assistance to all affected families.
