New Delhi/Noida: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Phase 1 of the Noida International Airport this Saturday, a move slated to revolutionize Delhi-NCR travel and ignite aggressive economic growth across the state.
A Landmark Infrastructure Milestone
The Prime Minister’s launch marks the completion of a ₹11,200 crore powerhouse project. Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL)—a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG—developed and now operates the facility through a strategic partnership with the Central and state governments.
Positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, this site stands as India’s premier greenfield project and the second major civil airport for the National Capital Region.
Technical Readiness and Capacity
The airport enters service with full momentum following recent milestones:
-
All-Weather Certification: In March 2026, the DGCA granted an aerodrome license for “all-weather operations.” The airport now utilizes advanced Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and navigation aids to maintain flight schedules even during the region’s notorious low-visibility windows.
-
Massive Throughput: The facility will immediately manage 1.2 crore passengers annually, with plans to scale capacity to 7 crore in the coming years.
-
Heavy-Duty Infrastructure: A 3,900-meter runway currently supports wide-body aircraft, featuring dual-end ILS and sophisticated ground lighting to ensure safe night and fog operations.
Driving Innovation and Logistics
Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the airport extends beyond passenger travel. The facility breaks new ground in the Indian aviation sector:
-
First In-House MRO: The airport hosts India’s first on-site Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility.
-
Logistics Hub: A dedicated cargo terminal will process over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes every year.
-
Multi-Modal Integration: The design seamlessly links road, rail, metro, and regional transit systems, positioning the airport as a world-class transport hub.
By launching this international gateway, the Prime Minister significantly strengthens India’s aviation infrastructure and provides a seamless link for both domestic and global travelers.
