Jamshedpur: A total of 10 people died in road accidents in the last one month, accidents due to ignorance of safety standards and violation of traffic rules. This was revealed in a traffic and road safety meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi at the Collectorate Auditorium, Jamshedpur.
Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabh Garg, Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan, ADM Law and Order Bhagirath Prasad, DTO Dhananjay, SDM Ghatshila Sunil Chandra, SDM Dhalbhum Chandrajit Singh, SDPO Ghatshila Ajit Kujur, DSP Traffic Neeraj, DSP Headquarters Bhola Prasad, MVI Suraj Hembram, other police and transport officials, and representatives of the Transport Association attended the meeting.
The review revealed that 18 accidents occurred in August, leaving 10 dead and 10 seriously injured. The Deputy Commissioner expressed concern that most incidents stemmed from negligence towards safety standards and traffic violations.
To curb the rising accidents, Satyarthi directed regular and intensive campaigns against drunk driving using breath analysers, strict action on overloading, and enforcement of “no helmet–no petrol” rules across the district. He also ordered a joint inspection of Mango Bridge by DTO, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, and Traffic DSP to ease traffic congestion during the festive season.
The DC further directed immediate settlement of pending compensation cases with insurance companies under the hit-and-run category, and prompt relief to affected families in other pending cases.
He emphasised that enforcement agencies must act with greater rigour, ensuring strict compliance of safety rules to protect lives and improve road discipline.
