Jamshedpur: In a crackdown linked to the high-profile ₹236 crore land scam involving IAS officer Vinay Choubey, the Ranchi police questioned three individuals from various parts of Jamshedpur late Thursday evening.
The detainees include Dinesh Agarwal, a resident of Kadma and an associate of a former state minister; Ayan Sarkar, a resident of Sonari; and a former journalist. Ranchi SP Paras Rana led the operation, conducting marathon interrogations at the Bistupur Police Station that lasted well into the night.
High-Profile Connections
Agarwal has previously served as the representative of a former minister at RIMS, Ranchi. Sarkar is reportedly close to the son of a former minister. Jamshedpur City SP Kumar Shivashish visited the Bistupur station during the questioning. Local police officials maintained that the Ranchi police spearheaded the entire action. Sources suggest that while the former journalist underwent questioning at the City SP’s residential office at Circuit House, Agarwal and Sarkar were at the Bistupur station.
Ashok Agarwal, Dinesh’s brother, claimed that police picked up Dinesh from the Rankini Temple in Kadma. He alleged that authorities denied the family permission to meet him and provided no official reason for the detention.
The investigation is focused on a land scam in Ranchi valued at ₹236 crore. IAS officer Vinay Choubey and several others have been accused in this case. The police have not released any official statement regarding the questioning, detention, or investigation.
